How a clinical chemistry reagent works
A clinical chemistry analyzer measures colour. Each reagent carries an enzyme system that reacts with one analyte in the sample and nothing else, and that reaction either produces a coloured product or consumes one, changing how much light passes through the cuvette. The analyzer reads that change at a fixed wavelength and converts it to a concentration using a calibration curve built from a calibrator of known value.
