What Thyroid Control does
Immunoassay control material is grouped by panel rather than by individual assay, which is why one thyroid control covers TSH, FT3, FT4, T3 and T4 together while each of those assays still requires its own calibrator. It is supplied at a high and a low level so the laboratory can demonstrate that the analyzer performs across the range rather than only near the middle, which matters particularly for TSH, where both suppressed and markedly raised values carry clinical weight. Control is run to the laboratory quality control policy and after each recalibration, and a failure means rejecting the run and investigating rather than adjusting the analyzer to fit.

Any Philippine laboratory that has brought thyroid testing in house needs this, and its consumption is driven by QC frequency and by how often the thyroid assays are recalibrated rather than by the number of patient samples.
