What BC-30 reagent set does
The BC-30 is a compact three-part differential analyzer, and it runs on a matched set of fluids rather than on any one reagent. The diluent is the conductive medium the cells are counted in and is consumed in by far the greatest volume, because every sample spends its whole measurement cycle in it. The lyse ruptures red cells so the white cells can be counted and separated into three populations. The rinse clears the flow path between samples so one patient does not carry over into the next, and the cleanser periodically strips off the protein residue that accumulates despite it. Each is specified for this analyzer family, and the instrument’s background limits and dilution ratios are set against them.

The BC-30 is a clinic and rural health unit instrument in Philippine practice, which shapes how its reagents should be supplied: sites are often far from Metro Manila, they order less frequently, and a diluent stock-out cannot be improvised around because there is rarely a second analyzer to fall back on. Storage and handling
Store containers upright and sealed until they are placed on the analyzer, out of direct sunlight, and within the labelled temperature range. A stockroom that is not air conditioned can sit above that range for hours a day in the dry season, and diluent held too warm raises background counts before the expiry date has any say in it. Questions about BC-30 reagent set
Can we use the reagents from our other Mindray analyzer on the BC-30?
No. The M-series fluids are matched to the analyzer family, so a diluent for a five-part instrument is not interchangeable with the BC-30 diluent even though both are called diluent. The analyzer’s background limits, dilution ratios and calibration are all set against its own specified set, and substituting puts the bench outside the manufacturer instructions for use.
What does it look like when the diluent has gone wrong?
Usually the analyzer complains before the results do. The first sign is a background count that will not come down after a rinse cycle, so the blank fails its own limit and the run stops. After that come drifting indices, platelet histograms that will not close, and quality control walking out of range while the control lot has not changed. None of those look like a reagent problem at first, which is why benches lose a morning to them.
